Episode 23 - Eye of the Steyr

We are back! This podcast is about the parallels between shooting a firearm and shooting a camera. We also are happy to be the first podcast (to our knowledge) to talk in depth about Steyr Arms and more specifically Al's new favorite carry gun, the Steyr S9-A1 pistol. Is this polymer pistol the polymer pistol you wish you had? Find out by listening to this Steyr podcast. As always, thanks for listening. Semper Portare! Or is it Semper Portate? Take a listen. We will explain. Al & Dagny

  1. Hi guys, I'm glad you're back! I've listened to all of your podcasts for a while but I don't think I've commented on them before. As you know, there has been a lot going on in the political world concerning guns recently. I know you two have generally avoided the political aspects of carrying, but I'm curious about how you view all of this. What are your opinions on the various (federal and state) bills that either succeeded or failed? Would you have thought differently about these events before you became interested in guns?

I also came upon the Herter's TNJ aluminum-case ammo, and it was the only 9mm I could find so I bought a bunch. I haven't tried it out, but I'll see if I can do that soon and let you guys know what I find out about it.

Another question that I have, which I don't think I've heard you answer, is why do you carry? What threats do you find most likely in your lives? How does that influence your equipment choices and carry habits? For me, I count on my lifestyle and awareness to help me avoid "normal" crimes, for the most part. That leaves the more random, unpredictable violence that I prepare for. I carry an M&P9C because I trust the full-size caliber more than an easier to carry mouse gun, and I like having the large round capacity to stop a highly determined attacker. Of course that will also serve to stop most muggers, but it's probably more gun than a lot of people find worthwhile to carry.

One last thing: Thanks Al for the holster advice! I carry in a Galco Stow-n-Go (similar to the USA holster) in the appendix position, and it makes it easy to always carry. Thanks again for the great advice and keep up the good podcasting!
